Psychiatry
Who is this service for?
This service is for children and youth with mental health difficulties.
It is very hard for them to function every day at home and in the community (such as at school).
They are 0 to 17 years of age (referred before their 18th birthday). They live in Guelph Wellington.
What supports do we offer in this service?
- We assess a child’s/youth’s psychiatric mental health needs.
- We prescribe medication.
- We refer for further assessment if needed.
- We recommend further services. We work as a team with those other services to support the child/youth.
- The Psychiatrist works together with the child’s/youth’s own primary care provider (Physician, Pediatrician, Nurse Practitioner).
- This service is not counselling. It is short term consultation, followed by a move back to the child’s/youth’s own primary care provider.
How do I access this service?
- Talk to your child’s/youth’s primary care provider (Physician, Pediatrician, Nurse Practitioner).
- If someone at CMHA WW already works with your child/youth, talk to that person.
- If someone at CMHA WW does not already work with your child/youth, start with a Single Session.
- Start with a Single Session. A Single Session is an opportunity for a family to meet once with a Mental Health Clinician to explore the need for services.
