Mental Health Consultation in Child Care
Who is this service for?
- This service is for Educators in child care programs. The Educators need support to meet the needs of children with mental health difficulties in their program.
- The eligible child care programs are in Guelph Wellington:
- Licensed child care programs (centre- or home-based)
- Authorized recreation programs or camps
- School board operated child care programs
- EarlyOn Child and Family Centres
- The children are 0 to 12 years of age (referred before their 13th birthday). They attend an eligible child care program.
- The children’s mental health difficulties might look like challenges with social interactions, emotions, or behaviour. Their difficulties happen in the child care program.
What supports do we offer in this service?
- Mental Health Consultation is part of Enhanced Support Services for child care programs.
- We provide training and consultation to Educators about children’s social emotional development and mental health. We share information and suggest ways that Educators can support children.
- We collaborate with Educators and parents/caregivers as they develop a support plan for a child in the child care program.
- We help Educators and a family access additional services if needed.
