  • Well At Work – Workplace Well-being Services

CMHA Waterloo Wellington knows that workplace wellbeing contributes to the overall wellbeing of the community in several interconnected ways. When organizations invest in the mental, emotional, and physical health of their employees, the positive effects often extend beyond the workplace and into the broader community.

    Healthier Employees = Healthier Communities

Employees who experience good workplace wellbeing are less likely to suffer from stress-related illnesses, reducing their reliance on healthcare systems. This lessens the burden on community healthcare resources.  Companies that promote physical and mental health initiatives (such as wellness programs, fitness incentives, and mental health resources) encourage healthier habits that employees bring into their personal lives and families, promoting a culture of wellness within the community.  This can be viewed as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility Plan.

    Economic Stability & Growth

Healthy, engaged employees contribute to higher productivity and, in turn, economic stability for their organizations. Successful businesses can grow, hire more employees, and invest in the local economy. When employees are well at work, they have energy left at the end of the day to visit local restaurants and businesses, contributing to economic stability.

By fostering a healthy, engaged, and supported workforce, businesses contribute to the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of the broader community, creating a more resilient, cohesive, and prosperous society.

Our workplace services are custom designed sessions for professionals in their workplace. A variety of learning opportunities are available including targeted training for all employees, for segmented groups of employees, and leadership teams.

Our workplace programs and services are custom designed to resonate with industry specific challenges to support skill development for leaders and employees.

    Training and Education

Training and education empower staff to manage their own mental health, decrease stigma and develop skills to work with others, whether that be colleagues or customers and clients. We have a vast training catalogue with something for everyone, and a variety of delivery models including in person, webinars, and self-paced learning via our virtual learning platform.

    Consulting Services

Businesses at the beginning of their journey to support mental health can often feel overwhelmed with understanding of what to do and where to start.  We can help!

CMHA Waterloo Wellington offers consulting services to assist organizations to integrate the International and National Standards for Psychological Health and Safety into workplaces.

Our consulting services are designed to help organizations strategically integrate best practices into their existing systems. Implementing these principles has been proven to reduce both physical and psychological injuries, offering significant returns on investment. Achieving success doesn’t require a complete revamp of your current policies; instead, we guide organizations through a phased approach that ensures seamless integration of psychological health into daily operations, making it an integral part of the culture rather than a standalone initiative. This approach not only fosters a safer workplace but also enhances employee well-being and productivity.

    We can assist with:

    • Custom training for your unique workplace
    • Data collection and interpretation of employee informant activities
    • Policy Development
    • Guidance and review of programs and services being offered
    • Psychological Health & Safety Assessments

    Employee Engagement Activities

Offering fun and exciting ways to get involved as a team builds a culture of well-being, connection and purpose. CMHA Waterloo Wellington has several event-based activities throughout the year that encourage connection.  Connect to find out more at learn@cmhaww.ca.

  • Certificate Courses
Our certificate programs offer in-depth training developed by expert partners, including Living Works, CMHA National, and the Mental Health Commission of Canada, designed to equip individuals from various backgrounds with the skills and knowledge to address mental health crises and suicide intervention.
Whether you’re a service provider, teacher, youth worker, emergency responder, supervisor, co-worker, or community member, these courses provide essential tools to support those in need. Each course is tailored with specific age and attendance requirements, ensuring that participants can gain the skills necessary to help their communities, workplaces, and loved ones.
These programs not only enhance participants’ ability to identify and assist individuals at risk, but also build a broader understanding of mental health, well-being, and suicide prevention strategies.
Interested in attending?  Register for an open session on our Events page or complete the booking form to bring the training to your organization.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)

ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid.

Participants learn to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Suicide can impact anyone at any time. Not only is this training appropriate for service providers, teachers, youth workers, emergency workers, counsellors, faith leaders, and volunteers, but also supervisors, co-workers, community members, family and friends. Participants do not need formal training to attend the workshop – ASIST can be learned and used by anyone.

    ASIST participants will learn to:

    • Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
    • Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
    • Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
    • Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
    • Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

    safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone)

safeTALK is half-day, evidence-based suicide-alertness workshop that prepares anyone 15 years of age and older to become a suicide-alert helper. safeTALK is like suicide first aid. Participants need no previous experience or training in order to become more ready, willing and able to be suicide prevention helpers.

safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting a person at risk with life-saving intervention resources.

    safeTALK participants will learn to:

    • Notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts might be present
    • Recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked
    • Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide
    • Apply the TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe

    Mental Health First Aid (Standard)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is offered to someone with an emerging mental health or substance use problem or in crisis, until appropriate treatment is found, or the situation resolves. An evidence-based course, MHFA Standard has been proven to give participants:

    • The tools to recognize signs of decline in mental well-being.
    • The ability to talk about their mental health.
    • The knowledge to discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery or improved mental well-being.
    • The confidence to reach out to these supports.
    • The tools to assist during a mental health or substance use crisis.
    • The knowledge to use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental wellness.

This 9-hour course opens with a self-directed module (Module 1) that focuses on the information and strategies that participants will discuss and practice throughout the live classroom modules (Modules 2 and 3). Course participants will complete Module 1 before participating in Modules 2 and 3.  For more information, visit: MHFA Standard (Blended) – Mental Health Commission of Canada
