Kitchener Centre MP Mike Morrice presented the King Charles medals to 20 local leaders and community advocates this past weekend, among the recipients was CEO CMHA Waterloo Wellington Helen Fishburn.

As a Member of Parliament, Mike has the opportunity to nominate 20 community members for a Canadian commemorative medal as one of 30,000 outstanding individuals who have made a difference in their communities.

The medal was created to mark King Charles’s coronation in 2023 and highlights themes that both King Charles III and all Canadians including Mike hold dear, including service, the environment and sustainability, and our nation’s diversity.

Helen accepted the award humbly and gratefully on behalf of all staff at CMHA Waterloo Wellington, who do incredible work each day to support our community, as well as the courageous people in our community who share their own personal story of hope and healing to reach people who are suffering in silence, and the brave family members who have lost a loved one to mental health and / or addictions who are demanding change in our health care system to prevent further losses

CEO Helen Fishburn also accepted the award on behalf of many passionate leaders (and fellow award recipients) such as Mike Farwell, who allows us a platform to speak about mental health through his radio show, and Clarence Cachagee who has blown through barriers to create new and innovative programs to ensure people with mental health issues are seen and supported.
