Why Do I Volunteer? By U. Anand #NVW2019
Apr 12, 2019
I chose to volunteer with Canadian Mental Health Association (Waterloo Wellington) to make an impactful difference within the community and its members and to equip myself with knowledge that supports my future goal as a Police Officer.
My vision is aligned with CMHA. “Mentally healthy people in a healthy society” I wanted to be part of an organization that fosters positive growth & integration and globally recognized. After becoming a volunteer and doing a one to one peer support, I have learned first-hand equality and support matters. It is about looking past the stigma realizing everybody is the same and some people just need more help establishing their goals. This is vital to me because my dream is to become a police officer within the community. I want to gain as much exposure as possible. Every call you attend as an officer, the situation is different. Knowing this it makes my future job a lot easier to communicate, relate and point individuals in the right direction and providing support as I come across them. Life experience in any aspect such as school, volunteering, jobs etc. not only enables you to network but helps you build strong base values throughout a diversified career that makes positive change within all members of a community.
