Grand Valley Construction Association Raises $10,000 for CMHA WW Through Push-Up Challenge

This year, the Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA) proudly rallied behind The Push-Up Challenge Canada in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington, demonstrating the local construction community’s strength extends far beyond job sites. With 7 teams82 champs, and an impressive $10,000 raised, GVCA members came together to support a cause that resonates deeply across the industry: mental health.

Construction professionals understand the importance of looking out for one another. It’s an industry where teamwork, resilience, and grit are essential, but it’s also one where mental health challenges can go unnoticed or unspoken.

Participating in The Push-Up Challenge gave GVCA the opportunity to bring awareness to issues like stress, isolation, and suicide prevention topics that disproportionately affect construction workers in Canada. The event created a platform to spark conversations and bring mental health into the open, all while adding a fun physical challenge.

The GVCA community stepped up literally and figuratively. With seven dedicated teams representing companies and individuals from across the region and country, members logged push-ups, shared encouragement, and cheered one another on from February 1 to 23.

Together, GVCA teams raised $10,000, supporting vital local mental health programs and services provided by the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington. These funds help ensure that individuals facing mental health challenges can access the resources they need counselling, education, and community-based supports that save lives.

For GVCA, participation wasn’t just about fitness or fundraising. It was about leading by example, reducing stigma, and demonstrating that mental health is everyone’s responsibility.

One of my biggest takeaways from the challenge was the check-ins. What started as quick conversations about push-ups became a simple but powerful reminder to ask how others are doing. It’s a small habit that can make a big difference.

– Mandy Bujold,  Manager of Industry and Community Partnerships.

GVCA’s involvement in The Push-Up Challenge Canada reflects the association’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, member well-being, and creating a healthier, safer industry for all.

The energy, dedication, and camaraderie displayed throughout the challenge highlight what makes the GVCA members so special: when it’s time to support each other, this community shows up.
