Westmount Tradition Charity Tennis Tournament Raises $144,000 For CMHA Waterloo Wellington’s Eating Disorders Program
Jul 23, 2025
The 10th annual Westmount Tradition Charity Tennis Tournament reached a remarkable milestone, raising $144,000 in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington’s (CMHA WW) Eating Disorders Program.
What started as a conversation between Westmount Tennis Pro Dave Mitchell and 2 members has grown into a decade-long tradition of giving back. Inspired by the success of the club’s Oktoberfest Charity Golf Tournament, they envisioned a tennis tournament that could bring the same community spirit—and charitable impact—to the court.
“The idea was simple: bring people together over a weekend of tennis and fun, and raise money for local causes,” said Rachel Burns, who along with Shannon McTaggart, Co-Chairs the Westmount Tradition Committee. “Now, 10 years later, it’s incredible to see how this event has grown—not just in dollars raised, but in community, connection, and impact.”
The Westmount community has continued to rally behind the event year after year, with growing participation and enthusiasm. Each recipient charity is supported for a two-year period, and the selection process is deeply personal. This year’s choice—CMHA WW’s Eating Disorders Program—resonated with the tournament organizers and many participants on a deeply emotional level.
“Our family has experienced firsthand how hard it is to find support. Sadly, people are not able to access adequate care until they’re in critical or near-critical condition. This donation will help CMHA WW reach more people earlier and prevent long-term health issues,” said Michelle Rogers, Co-chair of the Westmount Tradition Committee.
“CMHA WW is deeply grateful for the generous donation and the awareness raised through the event. Funds will directly support local individuals and families navigating the challenges of eating disorders, offering earlier access to care and much-needed support services. We can’t thank theWestmount Tradition Charity Tennis Tournament committee and the community of supporters enough for this impactful gift,” says CEO Helen Fishburn.
