CMHA WW recognizes International Self-Care Day
Jul 26, 2017
July 24th is International Self-Care Day, which aims to raise public awareness of the importance of self-care to stay healthy and prevent or delay illness.
Established in 2011 by the International Self-Care Foundation (ISCF), Self-Care Day aims to raise public awareness of the importance of self-care to stay healthy and prevent or delay illness.
Self-care means taking small steps to live a healthy lifestyle every day. To help, ISCF has developed a framework for self-care around seven pillars or domains, one of which is mental well-being, self-awareness and agency.
CMHA Waterloo Wellington recognizes that mental health is not the avoidance of mental health conditions but rather about living well and feeling capable despite challenges. Mental health is also influenced by a range of factors, including our life experiences, workplace or other environments, and the social and economic conditions that shape our lives.
CMHA WW joins individuals and organizations around the globe in celebrating International Self-Care Day. A number of CMHA services promote self-care, recovery, and resiliency:
- Self Help Services provides programs for self-care and recovery, and each Self Help site contains a Self Help Recovery Centre with tools, materials, and resources to assist individuals, in a self-help manner, to identify and develop strategies for taking on active roles in their own personal growth.
- CMHA WW has also been looking at building a resilient community, in partnership with other community health providers.
