The 2021 Mental Health Week (May 3-9, 2021) marks the 70th anniversary of Mental Health Week in Canada as well as being the second time we’re celebrating virtually.

There’s no doubt the pandemic is taking a significant toll on the mental wellbeing of Canadians. Locally, CMHA Waterloo Wellington has seen an increase in calls to our crisis line as a direct result of COVID-19. Things are hard right now, and that’s why this Mental Health Week we’ll focus on how naming, expressing and dealing with our emotions—even when they’re uncomfortable—can make us feel better.

When we understand and work with our emotions, this helps protect our mental health, during tough times like the pandemic and throughout all stages of life. And, when we understand how we are feeling, we’re better able to understand and empathize with others, too. And that helps create a climate of support and acceptance.

To this end, CMHA WW has put together a Mental Health Week webinar series that helps with naming our feelings and promotes resilience during COVID-19. From Men’s Mental Health to Finding the Balance During COVID-19, we’ll encourage you to get real with your feelings while offering practical tips and resources to help with how you’re feeling.
