This Mental Health First Aid (Basic) course is being offered over four Wednesday evenings instead of the usual two full days. You must complete the full four evenings in order to receive a certificate of completion.
Dates: Wednesdays – Feb. 20th, 27th, March 6th, 13th, 2019
(due to inclement weather, this MHFA start date shifted from Feb 6th to Feb 20th)
Times: 6:00pm to 9:30pm
Location: will be disclosed upon registration (it is on a bus route)
Mental Health First Aid Basic is a 12-hour course focused on adults interacting with adults in all environments. The course discusses the following mental disorders:
- Substance related disorders
- Mood related disorders
- Anxiety and trauma related disorders
- Psychotic disorders
Crisis first aid skills for the following situations are learned:
- Substance overdose
- Suicidal behaviour
- Panic attack
- Acute stress reaction
- Psychotic episode

A certificate of completion will be mailed directly from The Mental Health Commission of Canada approximately 6-8 weeks after the course. The Commission will email each participant requesting address information for the mailing.
