We are recruiting for a Psychiatrist – Children’s Services
The Waterloo Wellington Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association is interested in expanding its mental health services to the Waterloo Wellington communities.
The province of Ontario has embarked on a provincial strategy to improve and enhance children’s mental heath services through an initiative called “Moving on Mental Health”. Thirty three “Lead Agencies” have been identified across the province to facilitate the requirements of this strategy within the local context. CMHA Waterloo Wellington is the Lead Agency for Moving On Mental Health for Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin Communities. As part of this work, a significant examination of current children’s services will be necessary, in order to ensure we have met the core basket of services, including sufficient child psychiatry resources. CMHA WW is undertaking an “Ending Wait Times Project” as part of this work, to ensure children and youth and their families get the treatment they need at the right time in the right place. CMHA WW is currently recruiting child psychiatrists for teams based in Guelph, Fergus and Mount Forest to work within a team based model in the provision of assessment and treatment for children and youth with significant mental health challenges.
Full time and part time opportunities exist, and there is flexibility to build a position around a psychiatrist’s particular set of knowledge, interest and experience. A core group of 10 psychiatrists also make this an attractive opportunity for a new graduate. Interest and skills in psychiatric psychopharmacology and a desire to work with clients in a community setting who often have a variety of co-morbidities and psychosocial challenges, are necessary. There is an opportunity for psychiatrists who are required by the CPSO to have a year of supervised practice.
Leadership to a multidisciplinary team and active collaboration with primary care providers and other community partners is expected.
Opportunities also exist for an academic appointment with the Kitchener-Waterloo campus of the McMaster School of Medicine, and active teaching of medical students, family medicine and psychiatry residents is encouraged. There are also options for more formal teaching roles within the satellite medical campus which is situated in Kitchener.
Additionally, there is the opportunity to jointly credential with Grand River Hospital, and join their department of psychiatry, a 25 member group providing acute and specialized mental health services across the age continuum with 115 inpatient beds and associated outpatient services.
The Waterloo-Wellington Region consists of 4 cities; Cambridge, Guelph, Kitchener and Waterloo. Each with numerous urban amenities but with small town charm and atmosphere. Just a short drive from the cities are numerous small towns set within inviting farmland, forests and rivers of the region. Pearson International Airport is just an hour away, and the sites of Toronto are easily accessible for an evening or day trip. Waterloo-Wellington is a highly regarded area to raise a family offering modest housing prices with an abundance of lifestyle options, and safe, nurturing, family focused communities to live and grow. Three highly regarded universities and a community college contribute to a spirit of academic innovation and leadership, supported by excellent public, separate and private primary and secondary schools.
Payment is a combination of fee for service and sessional fees with no overhead costs. This offers a competitive earning potential while maximizing physician autonomy and choice.
