October Mental Health Check-up Mike Farwell Show

In this edition of our Mental Health Check-up with the Mike Farwell show on 570 News, our Executive Director Helen Fishburn and Director of Strategy and Innovation Alison DeMuy talk about Mental Illness Awareness Week and Tampon Tuesday. Menstrual hygiene products are one of the most requested yet least donated items at food banks, this is why Tampon Tuesday events were created, to collect feminine hygiene products. Having your basic needs met by having access to feminine hygiene products impacts mental health. The female population is also impacted by mental health in different ways, It is common for women to experience symptoms of mental disorders at times of hormone change, such as perinatal depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and perimenopause-related depression. While women are more likely to speak with their primary care physicians about mental health challenges, women also fear seeking treatment because of the social stigma and their obligations as parent and caregiver. Proceeds from the SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU Run for Women helps support mental health programs and services for women at CMHA WW.

As part of Tampon Tuesday, we are offering $5 off registration for the SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU Run for Women, click here to register and use promo code: TAMPONTUES
