Faces of CMHA: “What does a Job Mean to You?”

Learn about Employment Services through Sally Michener-Potts Team Lead of Employment Services at CMHA Waterloo Wellington. Follow the ‘Faces of CMHA’ series for a glimpse into the lives of the people who spend each day working to make a difference at the Canadian Mental Health Association:

What does a job mean to you? It can mean many things depending on who you ask. It can mean being able to pay the rent, or maybe it means using our skills and talents, or doing something we enjoy.

The employment team at CMHA WW specializes in helping people figure out what work means to them right now, setting an employment goal, and coming up with a plan to reach that goal. But that’s not all! If you are ready to work, have some skills to offer an employer, and simply want supports to help you find a job – we do that too.

Many people come to our service because they need to change the kind of job or occupation they have been doing, sometimes related to changes in their physical or mental health. Some have experienced challenges with keeping a job. We offer coaching to help people look at what has worked in the past, and build on those successes.

“This service was invaluable in supporting me through some very difficult times and decisions.  The employment coordinator was an amazing person to work with and I would highly recommend her, and already have on more than one occasion.  Thank you for all the information and for helping me to speak for myself.” Employment Services Client

Sometimes people realize they need to take some steps before they start that job – perhaps upgrading or refreshing their skills, or even a training program. The team helps them look at their options and provides supports as they move through their plan.

If you are considering going back to work, could use some help looking at your options, or simply want to find out more about the service, you are welcome to contact us.
